SFTMA’S 2017 ONAM CELEBRATION

The Selangor and Federal Territory Malayalee Association (SFTMA) held their Onam Celebration at the SRJK (C) Sungai Way Hall, in Petaling Jaya.  The Cultural Team led by Mr. Velayuthan, and, Mdm. Krishnamu Gopal, and working together with the entire committee, organized a spectacular event for our community and friends.  

More than 500 members, including special guests, family and friends, converged dressed in traditional mundu and Kerala kasave saris.  Members and friends were treated to cultural performances by the SFTMA youth, while savouring the grand feast termed ‘Onasadhya’ associated with the harvest festival of Onam.  Lunch was served individually on banana leaves with a variety of typical vegetarian Malayalee dishes. This year, the youth of SFTMA, led by Mr. Muralidaran Mogana Dass, took it on themselves to serve the guests personally and did a wonderful job of it.

Present at the event were Guest of Honour,  YBhg. Datuk Suseela Menon, President of All Malaysia Malayalee Association (AMMA) as well as special guests, YBhg. Datuk Rahmah Abdul Hamid, President of Pan-Pacific & South-East Asia Women’s Association (PPSEAWA), celebrity YBhg. Datin Sri Shaila Nair, Mr. Mohan Ramakrishnan, Deputy President of AMMA, and his wife, Dr. Anntelenna Devasy, Mr. Ravindranath G Menon, Immediate Past President of SFTMA, Mr. JP Menon, Past President of SFTMA and his wife, Mdm Krishnanjali Menon.

At the event, Raman Nair Hachoodan, a Malaysian Malayalee who scaled the peak of Mount Everest on his first attempt was acknowledged and recognised for his achievement with a token of appreciation, and honoured with a shawl.
